Blackhawk Technical College Foundation is pleased to announce the recent award of the 2009 Kevin Wixom Memorial Awards to Larry Westberg, Milton WI, and Rob Oman, Janesville WI. This scholarship is awarded to students in the Aviation Maintenance Technician program at Blackhawk Technical College.  Kevin Wixom was a student at Blackhawk Technical College in the aviation program before his death from pancreatic cancer.  Kevin had a tremendous passion for the field of aviation as do many members of his family. The Kevin Wixom Memorial Award is made possible by the generosity of the Richard and JoAnn Wixom family and Nancy L. Wixom.

The family of Ray W. Loomis and the Blackhawk Technical College Foundation are pleased to announce the award of the 2009 Ray W. Loomis Memorial Scholarship to Tracy L. Anderson of Albany, Wisconsin. Tracy is currently enrolled in the Physical Therapy Assistant program at Blackhawk Technical College in Janesville. She graduated from Warren High School in Warren, Wisconsin.

The scholarship is awarded in the memory of Ray W. Loomis, who was an educator, administrator and principal. After his retirement in 1976, he worked part-time at Blackhawk Technical College until 2000, where he touched the lives of many through his friendly nature and positive attitude. He remained a strong supporter of students while at Blackhawk Tech. Friends and family joined together in collecting contributions following his death on September 22, 2006 to fund an annual scholarship through the Blackhawk Technical College Foundation. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student enrolled at Blackhawk Tech. Through this scholarship, the family and friends of Ray W. Loomis believe the memory of Ray will remain alive while helping others to attain their dreams.

The Blackhawk Technical College Foundation announces the award of the 2009 Michael Conner Memorial Scholarship to Sean Spors of Janesville WI.  This scholarship is awarded to a student in the Mechanical Design or the Industrial Engineering programs at Blackhawk Technical College.  Michael Conner was an instructor at Blackhawk Technical College for over 15 years before his death from a serious illness.  Michael had a tremendous impact on the lives of many students, always emphasizing the value of education and striving to help students to succeed.  He was a mentor to students and an admired instructor. The Michael Conner Memorial Scholarship is made possible by the generosity of Michelle Conner-Johnson, daughter Danielle and son Nathan.

The Blackhawk Technical College Central Campus is located midway between Beloit and Janesville. Situated on over 80 acres of partially wooded prairie, the campus is home for most of BTC’s programs and services. The campus is easily accessible from Prairie Road (County Highway G) and Highway 51.

This comprehensive technical college facility comprises over 200,000 square feet. It includes instructional classrooms, shops and labs for accounting, marketing, word processing, administrative assistant, legal secretary, fire science, criminal justice, child care services, HVAC/R, welding, and machine tool. Also located on the Central Campus is a technical center integrating labs for electronics, electro-mechanical and mechanical design; and a health occupations complex for nursing, nursing assistant, dental assistant and hygiene, radiography, and health unit coordinator. A technical library; media production and telecommunications center; child care center; bookstore; and food service, with seating for 600 are also housed on the Central Campus. Seminar and teleconferencing facilities are also available.

A Student Services Center is available to provide students with a variety of assistance programs. Facilities include offices for guidance, admissions and registration, placement, financial aids, veterans’ affairs, minority student services, and student activities. Vocational testing and career assessment are available through the Student Services’ Career Center.

Facilities for individualized learning and remedial education are also located at the Central Campus. 

Parking, accommodating approximately 1,200 vehicles, is available on the Central Campus, and bus service from Beloit and Janesville is also provided for students’ convenience. This is described in further detail in the General Information section.
